Only a few people in the world can repair copies of the Qur’an, the holy book of Islam, and two of those experts live in Thailand’s Narathiwat province, according to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin today.
The Thai Foreign Ministry will be assigned to inform other countries about this, so that, if they want to have their holy books repaired, they can send them to us, Srettha said.
He made the statement after visiting the Islamic Cultural Heritage Museum and the Qur’an Learning Centre in Yi Ngor district.
He lauded the museum as a comprehensive source of knowledge for Muslims in Thailand and the Southeast Asian region, as well as for Qur’an based learning. “I wish for the museum to become a cultural tourist attraction for Muslims in Thailand and from other countries,” he said.
He added that his government places importance on equality and peaceful co-existence for the prosperity of the southern region.
The premier also took the opportunity to visit a local product exhibition, during which he praised the skills of the people and the beauty of their products.
He said that he will take locally-made bags with him to France, where he will meet its leaders, private companies and designers from a number of fashion houses. He will seek opportunities for cooperation between them and Thai producers, he said.
Srettha is currently visiting Narathiwat as part of his three-day official visit to the deep south. He has already visited Pattani and Yala on this trip.
He and his entourage will fly back to Bangkok this afternoon.
