Indonesia organized the 2566 Vesak day celebration at the Borobudur temple in Central Java, local media TVRI reported.

The event, by the Indonesian Buddhists Council and the Indonesian Buddhists Association, saw thousands of lanterns lit up the sky above the temple complex.

Besides being a form of worship of the people to the Buddha, the release of the lanterns to the sky is also meant as releasing the negative elements away, with prayer and hope posted in every lantern.

Thousands of lanterns were released into the sky by monks and eventgoers.

The ritual of releasing the lanterns originates in Thailand, it was then adopted by Buddhists in Indonesia as a form of worship from the people to the Buddha through the lit fire.
