Wan Yubamrung, who resigned from the Pheu Thai party last week, was welcomed into the Palang Pracharath party today by its leader, Prawit Wongsuwan.

Wan said some members of other political parties had invited him to join them, but he chose to join Prawit’s party and that he was impressed by Prawit’s warm welcome.

Wan, the son of veteran and outspoken Pheu Thai MP Chalerm Yubamrung, decided to leave Pheu Thai after its leader, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, criticised him for visiting Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit Toopkrachang, a rival to Pheu Thai’s candidate Charn Puangpetch in the Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organisation’s (PAO) mayoral election.

Charn won by a narrow margin over Kamronwit.

Wan claimed last week that his family was very close to Kamronwit and that he visited him only after the election results were known.

Referring to his father, Wan encouraged the Pheu Thai Party to dismiss Chalerm so that he could also join Palang Pracharath.

Election rules state that an MP who is dismissed from a party is allowed to join a new party within a month.

If an MP resigns from a party, however, they lose their MP status immediately.

Wan said Pheu Thai can dismiss his father because, on the day in question, Chalerm was also at Kamronwit’s place.
