It has been almost a month since former Thai prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha left the public eye, when he left office in late August.
The country now has new leader, Srettha Thavisin, and the media is dominated by stories of the new government. Some may, however, be wondering how Prayut, who governed the country for nine years, is doing.
Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, a former PM Office minister under in the Prayut administration, has the answer. He posted on his Facebook page today (Friday) about a recent visit to Prayut’s home.
Thanakorn described the two-hour reunion with Prayut as being filled with laughter and happiness. “He looks healthy, fresh and happy. He asked about those who used to work with him,” Thanakorn said.
Referring to Prayut by his nickname “Uncle Tu”, Thanakorn said the former army officer and prime minister still expresses concerns over the country, as a Thai citizen who wishes to see it advance with stability.
He is no longer involved with politics, Thanakorn said, adding that Prayut asked him to convey his thoughts and best wishes to all Thais.
Thanakorn told Prayut that there are many people who miss him and say good things about him, not like when he was in office, when many harshly criticised him and his work. He tried to persuade Prayut to go upcountry and to visit temples.
“I would like to spend time with my family first, as I had no time with them when I was the prime minister. Let see after this,” Prayut told Thanakorn. His visit came about because he missed Prayut and no politics were involved.
