An Asian woman was found dead on Kata Beach in Phuket this morning by a life guard, according to Karon police.
The victim, in a black two-piece swim suit, was about 160cm tall and aged about 30, with long black hair. The body was found lying face down on the beach, opposite the Club Med Hotel.
Police say that there were no apparent wounds on the body and no identity documents were found.
Police currently think that the woman came to the beach to swim alone this morning and was overcome by huge waves. Red flags are being flown along the beach, warning tourists not to swim in the sea at this time of the year due to the heavy seas and strong winds.
In a bid to identify the victim and her nationality, police are contacting hotels and resorts located along Kata Beach.
